Church Road Records signees Believe in Nothing have released a new single, ‘What Would You Do?’ — a slow-motion descent into public humiliation, execution, and the murky pleasure we sometimes find in watching it all unfold.
The Eastbourne-based sludge/noise outfit—formed in 2023 and featuring Caine Hemmingway (vocals/noise), Lawrence Rodriguez (guitar), Steve Collier (guitar), and Jasper Lyons (drums)—build their sonic world with layers of caustic noise and feedback, sculpted into brutal, erratic structures that aim to destabilize more than entertain.
“The song ‘What Would You Do?’ is the first taste of the desperate and violent world we want to show. It’s a contemplation of public execution, humiliation and ultimately enjoying it.” – Believe in Nothing
In the short time they’ve been active, Believe in Nothing have already carved out a cult following through a string of chaotic live shows. Their reputation for creating oppressive, viscerally emotional environments—both sonically and visually—is gaining momentum quickly.
But today’s release isn’t just about the band’s own noise-soaked vision. We’re also publishing something unique—a personal dive into the Eastbourne scene, curated by frontman Caine Hemmingway.
Caine has written a raw and vivid report on the other bands pushing boundaries alongside Believe in Nothing in their often-overlooked town on the South Coast of the UK.
This scene document includes unfiltered takes and direct links to bands like Black Groove, Droop, The Defamation Project, The Veltmans, and Chub—all of whom are injecting life into a town otherwise drained by apathy, failing leadership, and economic decline.
“Eastbourne is doing a spectacular, and sadly unremarkable job of a downward spiral in many ways, but not music and the community that circulates. It is the perfect recipe for a niche musical counterculture to push against the preconceptions and general lack of opportunity afforded.”
Read the full Eastbourne scene report and explore each band through Caine’s own words.
Black Groove
Black Groove are the absolute definition, to the jagged edge, of vile, dribbling from seams of Eastbourne.
A band we have regularly played with, collaborated with on and off stage, with Jake joining vocal duties on our first single, ‘What Would You Do?’ The sheer unfiltered power in their approach to their craft is an uncomfortable and brutal battering of the senses, waves of bass driven down tempo sludge hypnosis with eye splitting noise coursing through its black tar veins.
Never have I seen a band play every note, and scream every word with as much visceral intention as Black Groove.
Droop
Forging themselves off the back of an Eastbourne Black Groove show, Droop have cut their teeth through countless shows across the South Coast, including a local support I put them on with riff lords Kulk. Their first self-titled EP is a thing of brutal beauty which encapsulates their incredible live form, a raw mental spiral of Pixies esque alt rock with stabs of dirty sludge and desperate vocals.

The Defamation Project
One of the most bizarre and absurd bands bubbling up from our scene, and another guest vocalist on our upcoming album.
A father and son two piece invite you into what sounds like a disturbing dream-like world. Often dressed as an elderly couple, they assault you with 90s death metal style drums, shrill and disturbing shrieks, whistles, waves of distortion and noise from an array of electronic oscillations and tremolo guitars. Their first album drops this year.
The Veltmans
A band we have watched grow up, recorded, booked on countless shows, and some of the scariest young talents the town has.
The Veltmans are a band emerging from the embers of their time as the young local indie band.

They have grown into a really well crafted and visceral alt rock unit, with elements of post and emo, with jaw dropping storytelling. Much like their indie forefathers The Maccabees etc, they are about to burst from their cocoon into what band they truly are.
Chub
Every show these guys play is a party.
With sneering vocals, catchy punk choruses and precise instrumentation, Chub have been soaking the floors of venues across the southband beyond with beer and sweat, with their unfiltered thrash infused party punk.
After their metal to the masses win, they played Bloodstock last year in front of a huge crowd. Current bangers and future bangers, recorded by our very own Jasper.
