Chicago, goth-pop duo, ClubDrugs premieres their incandescent new single, “Overdose.  With its sheer tenacity, the dream-like soundscape distributes charming tension that breeds equal parts anxiety and serenity. Composers Maria Reichstadt (vocals, synths, bass) and John Regan (vocals, synths, guitar, drums) encapsulate their stellar ambivalence through their intimate sound as they invite us into their ethereal interpersonal world.

“John wrote this almost haunting arpeggio guitar loop, and that became the basis of this song that everything else built around.” – comments Maria.

“We were listening to a lot of post punk, The Cure, the Smiths, etc and really wanted to lean into a longing, wistful vibe. When I started working on vocal melodies, I was trying to evoke the sadness I felt in the guitar, trying to tell a story about the dramatic and agonizing pain of being young and losing your first love. A different kind of overdose.

As the doors open, Overdose imparts familiar classic 80s darkwave within the collective  territory of goth, industrial, pop, and metal. The genre-blending creates a sonic language that is indicative of their celestial feel as their emotive qualities become an immersive experience.

Spreading an array of color, Reichstadt and Regan merge their “haunting guitar loops” and a myriad of synthesis to illustrate a vast space allowing the song to breathe. However, the dichotomous weight of the low-end centers the composition as the kick is reminiscent of quintessential 80s industrial 909 electronic drums.

As the composition acts as an independent character, the introspective sound is tailored around Reichstadt’s bright vocal performance. Her raw, angelic voice will sooth you as she walks you further into their imagination.

Reichstadt and Regan self-produced Overdose, which will be a part of their upcoming album LOVESICK that will come out on March 27, 2026 on Artoffact Records.
