DEAD ICARUS (ex-ATREYU) shares “1 Million Days” ahead of Halloween release of “Zealot”

Dead Icarus, featuring former Atreyu frontman Alex Varkatzas, have just unleashed their latest video for “1 Million Days.” This horror-inspired visual couldn’t have landed at a better time, setting the tone for the spooky season.

With Varkatzas teaming up with Gabe Mangold (Enterprise Earth) and drummer Brandon Zackey, Dead Icarus is gearing up for the release of their debut album, Zealot, on October 31 via MNRK Heavy.

1 Million Days” showcases a more introspective side of Dead Icarus.

Varkatzas describes it as the closest thing to a power ballad on the album, explaining that the song evolved from being about seeking forgiveness from someone else to dealing with self-forgiveness for personal mistakes.

The video, a nod to ‘80s horror films, was filmed in a haunted house for added creepy atmosphere.

Mangold adds that musically, “1 Million Days” is a metalcore take on a classic power ballad, filled with ‘80s-inspired guitar harmonies and a singable, emotional chorus. But don’t be fooled by the ballad label—this song packs some unexpected twists that keep it far from conventional.

Dead Icarus’ Zealot promises to deliver everything from technical riffs to virtuosic solos and blast beats, capturing the creative energy that Varkatzas and Mangold have built since joining forces. Fans of old-school Atreyu and Enterprise Earth will likely find much to love in this upcoming release.

Zealot drops October 31, and Dead Icarus has more touring on the horizon, following their recent run with Enterprise Earth and Nekrogoblikon.
