Foo Fighters have announced their new album, But Here We Are, which is set to be released on June 2, 2023. This album will be their first release since the tragic passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022. The album is said to be the first chapter of the band’s new life, and it is described as the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together 28 years ago. The album features 10 songs, with the first single, “Rescued,” already available for streaming.
Foo Fighters’ new single “Rescued” is a triumphant return for the band, delivering the big guitars and anthemic hooks that fans have come to love. The song’s lyrics touch on a deeply meaningful experience that comes to a sudden halt, with Dave Grohl’s poignant vocals capturing the yearning “to be rescued.” Cathartic in the truest sense, “Rescued” is a power rock track that feels tailor-made for epic live shows.
It’s the first taste of new music from the band since 2021’s Medicine at Midnight and their fictional band’s “lost album” Dream Widow from the horror movie Studio 666.
Foo Fighters will also be performing at several festivals this summer, including Bonnaroo, Fuji Rock, Louder Than Life, and Ohana. Additionally, they will play a string of headlining dates with support from The Breeders, which marks their first tour dates since playing a pair of Hawkins tribute concerts last year.
The album was produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, and the band says it is a brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything they endured over the past year. The album features 10 songs that run the emotional gamut from rage and sorrow to serenity and acceptance.

Foo Fighters addressed their future as a band following Hawkins’ passing in a New Year’s Eve message on social media. They wrote, “Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were — and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.”
Hawkins had been the Foo Fighters drummer for 25 years and is survived by his wife Alison and their three children. The band staged two tribute concerts in his honor, and other notable tributes have been held in the months since his passing.
