The experimental duo of KILLING SPREE, featuring Matthieu Metzger (KLONE, ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE JAZZ, LOUIS SCLAVIS, MARC DUCRET) and Grégoire Galichet (KWOON, DEATHCODE SOCIETY, DEAD SEASON), is set to unleash their much-anticipated album “Camouflage” on September 13 via Klonosphere/Season of Mist.
Following the critical acclaim of their EP “A Violent Legacy,” which showcased bold reimaginings of DEATH and MESHUGGAH classics, “Camouflage” promises to further push boundaries with its powerful fusion of death-metal ferocity and electrifying free jazz.
In celebration of the album, KILLING SPREE has dropped a visually arresting music video for their rendition of MORBID ANGEL’s “Rapture.”
Filmed within the storied trenches of the Maginot Line in Alsace, the video encapsulates the duo’s raw energy and formidable live presence.
Matthieu Metzger delves into their creative journey: “The concept of duet covers started with ‘A Violent Legacy.’ My deep dive into MESHUGGAH’s complexities has been extensive, but the primal intensity of early Death Metal resonates deeply. We covered DEATH’s ‘Symbolic’ and ‘Jealousy,’ alongside MESHUGGAH’s ‘Electric Red.’
“The real test was performing these live, showcasing the potential of two musicians tackling these classics. Grégoire, a devoted MORBID ANGEL fan, proposed ‘Rapture.’ We filmed it handheld, in a single take, capturing the live pressure on our cameraman, Thomas Lincker. A stroke of scheduling fortune brought us to Alsace, near Grégoire’s home, where we found an ideal setting among Maginot Line enthusiasts. The natural reverb added a beautiful depth to the original track.”
