FRUSEN SORG premieres “En Kall Famn”, a power punch of bleak and blackened punk from Stockholm

2 mins read

Emerging from the ruins of an abandoned mental institution in Stockholm, Frusen Sorg—translating to “Frozen Grief”—presents their new single “En Kall Famn“, a slab of biting blackened punk that claws at your throat without a warning.

It’s the latest track off their debut EP Jag Springer Med Avbrutna Ben, dropping July 25, 2025 via Fiadh Productions and Void Sound, with a digital release through Widsith Records.

Formed in 2024 by guitarist/drummer Martin Sandström (Stiu Nu Stiu, Möuth, the almighty post rockers Jeniferever, Literature) and bassist/vocalist Kalle Mattsson (Stiu Nu Stiu, Literature), the band leans hard into the uncomfortable.

Their sound fuses crust punk, d-beat, and black metal, pulling no punches. It’s raw, direct, and deeply rooted in lived emotional trauma—no mythology, no fantasy, just the kind of truth you usually keep buried.

“‘En Kall Famn’ means ‘A Cold Embrace’ in Swedish,” the band explains. “It’s about being so used to suffering and depression that it starts to feel like a safe space. The anxiety can become a way to hide from whatever is haunting you. A prison that keeps you busy, excuses you from society and life itself. Comfort in pain, basically. It’s weird, and dangerous.”

The track’s title is no metaphor. It feels like a confrontation with something frozen inside—four minutes of scraping rhythm, hostile noise, and vocals that sound like they’ve already screamed themselves hoarse. There’s clarity in the mess, but no resolution. It’s excavation. Personal and public at once.

“We aim to tap into the most painful corners of our minds – the ugly, weak, and rotten places that have no real place in modern life,” says Sandström. “There is power, strength, and an awful beauty there. We bring it to the surface and record it, as it’s a valid but neglected part of us. It’s very personal, even private, but we also do it to share it with others. It’s a very human thing to do.”

The release follows their first single “Bort”, a scorched-earth howl of desperation and disassociation.

“We chose ‘Bort’ as the first single because it perfectly exemplifies what we do,” the band explains. “It’s desperate, crusty d-beat with black metal influences, featuring lyrics about real-life trauma instead of mythological themes. It’s a spot-on musical translation of what the lyrics mean – running on broken legs and wanting to go away, to give up and disappear. It’s about admitting you’re broken, that you should have given up long ago so you could heal, but you’ve kept on running because that’s all you know.”

Jag Springer Med Avbrutna Ben is not concerned with fitting into genre lines. It’s a release built from scars, not schematics.

FFO: Discharge, Darkthrone, Skitsystem, Kriegshög, Dropdead, Iskra.

The EP drops July 25 on tape via Fiadh Productions/Void Sound and digitally via Widsith Records.
