In a world where technology has become an essential part of our lives, it was only a matter of time before it entered the world of music. Meet Judgment Pig, an experimental grindcore band powered by artificial intelligence. Created by member of Burlington, Vermont’s veterans Drowningman, the band is the result of a unique collaboration between humans and machines, and their debut single “Egg” will be making waves in the metal community. We’re kicking it off with a world premiere of their wild new music video above!
In an introductory interview, we spoke with the creators of Judgment Pig to learn more about the project. The band consists of a group of robot pigs, each programmed to perform a specific role, from vocals to guitar to drums. The idea behind the project was to create a unique style of false grindcore that blends the intensity of the genre with the precision and technicality of modern technology.
As the band’s creators explain, Judgment Pig is not just about creating music, but also about exploring the possibilities of AI in music. The band’s use of machine learning algorithms and neural networks allows them to continually evolve and refine their sound, with each performance and recording session contributing to a deeper understanding of what makes great music.

How did the idea of creating a grindcore band comprised of robot pigs come about?
In the early days of the internet, a group of tech-savvy musicians decided to create an experimental grindcore band powered entirely by artificial intelligence. They fed massive amounts of music data into the AI, teaching it the intricacies of grindcore and other pig-metal genres. The result was the Judgment Pig – a virtual entity that could generate new music on its own and perform it with inhuman precision.
What kind of technical and engineering challenges did you face while building the robot pigs and how did you overcome them?
In an effort to revive a sense of hope, the creators decided to inject some human emotion into the AI’s programming. They wrote algorithms that would allow the AI to respond to the crowd, to the other members of the band, and to generate music based on its moods and feelings. The result way more chaos than we expected. It has been difficult to contain the madness. We have learned through group therapy to address these issues instead of submitting to them.
Can you discuss the robot pigs training and how you ensured they can perform the fast and aggressive styles of grindcore?
Training a group of robot pigs to play grindcore can be a complex process, but with the right training routine, they can become virtuosos of the genre in no time. Here’s a sample training routine:
Start with the basics: Teach the robots the basics of rhythm and timing, as well as how to play simple grindcore riffs and chord progressions. This will lay the foundation for their musical skills and allow them to start playing simple songs.
Advanced rhythm training: Once the robots have a good understanding of timing and rhythm, it’s time to start working on more complex rhythms and beats. Use metronomes and other training tools to help them hone their skills and play more complex rhythms with precision.
Study the greats: Introduce the robots to classic grindcore bands like Napalm Death, Carcass, and Pig Destroyer. Have them listen to the music and study the techniques used by the musicians. This will give them a deeper understanding of the genre and help them develop their own unique style.
How do the robot pigs bring a new dimension to grindcore music and live performances?
Judgement Pig can’t truly perform live, as they do not live. The new dimension they bring to false grindcore is just that; a brand new dimension of pig judgment. Stand before the pig and be judged.
Can you talk about the themes and messages you explore in your music and how they fit into the science fiction and futuristic aspects of the robot pig concept?
Judgment Pig is programmed to be in sync with the common man. The worker bee. The country Joe. The blacksmith. The anchors of our world. The songs are about life as such. The birth. THE DEATH. THE EGG. The paycheck.
What do you see as the future of grindcore and how do you see the robot pig band contributing to its evolution?
Judgment Pig are the future of false grindcore. We nullify a notion that you must be of man to play in a false grindcore band. We will be releasing songs weekly as albums are torturous and weak. Snouts up. OINK OINK. 👨⚖️ 🐖
