Run For Cover Records has announced the signing of Maryland’s MODERN BASEBALL. The label will be re-pressing their release called “Sports” on March 12th.
Here’s the full announcement:
We are super excited to announce that we’ve signed Philadelphia emo band, Modern Baseball.
Modern Baseball released their critically acclaimed debut full-length ‘Sports’ last December via hometown label Lame-O Records. The band will enter the studio to record their follow up and Run For Cover debut early this summer. RFC is now taking pre-orders for the second pressing of the ‘Sports’, which they are re-releasing in conjunction with Lame-O records. The new pressing is due out March 12th. ‘Sports’ is a uniquely modern record, capturing the sort of love and loneliness that could only occur in the second decade of the second millennium. Recorded over a series of late nights at Drexel University’s free studio and released by Lame-O Records at the end of 2012, Sports conveys how it feels to be young and hopeless in modern America—a cracked cellphone clutched in one’s hand, subconsciously refreshing social media, hoping to get noticed by that girl at the party and ignored by the ghosts from high school past. Calling on Say Anything’s bravado, the Front Bottoms’ tongue-in-cheek quirk and the Weakerthans’ literary misery, Modern Baseball have made a record with remarkable depth and relatability.
“In the same way that people look back at Take This To Your Grave and Deja Entendu now, don’t be surprised when ‘Sports’ is the classic on everyone’s lips a few years. Honestly, this is the best album released within this scene in 2012.” – Absolutepunk – 9.2/10
