Russian progressive, folk infused post black metallers NEVERENDING WINTER have recently released an astounding new record called “Хиус”, and we’re extremely pleased to finally give it some space on IDIOTEQ. The adventurous 5-tracker is a perfect marriage of the atmospheric and the vicious, the vulnerable and the monstrous, and thankfully, ends on a calmer note that escorts the listener back to reality, with various demonic scenes still projecting in the listener’s senses. We caught up with the band, asked them about the meaning of this beastly effort, and we’ve got a comprehensive tour through each and every track!
“Хиус” by NEVERENDING WINTER is out not on tapess via They Live Records and Slow Snow Records. The band is looking for shows in Germany, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, and Czech Republic between October 14th and 23rd. and up to 23.
This record is our second full-length record. Album recording started at the end of 2016 and was completed by 2017. Lyrics again are inspired by both Siberian nature and the sense of life among these endless landscapes, indescribable views and constant colds in the hearts of people here. If talking about some kind of concept on “Хиус” the main idea is taken from both Russian narratives and classic literature, use of some archaic and old words for lyrics and placing a life of simple person as the main character who roams in search during the story.
Continued below…
“By Snowridges” – This song is a reflection on meaning of life and simple middle or low class people. Again the main idea came from classics and some old narratives. A peasant takes his way from uninhabited lands, almost desolated and forgotten by everyone to the see the lords of its lands and ask for some help and prolongation on loans. The only сcompanions of that man are the winds whose embraces cool the heart and bottomless fens.
“Neverending winter” – That one is mostly about the inner sense of living not only in Siberia but in country at all. Strong reflection on the constant colds inside of society due to which people have more pits between each other, more indifference and hostility, rather that being more open-minded in the way of thinking and less self-oriented maybe.
“Heeus” – When i was looking for a good word to translate old and regional (means not used all over country but in some regions) finally decided to make a direct translation. Heeus – (Russian “Хиус”) is a very strong kind of a wind that mostly common for the winter seasons. Roaming of our main character led him directly to the dark and hairy wood behind which is manor of lords is situated, the destination point. But finally exhausted after getting over endless snows and strong blizzards a peasant reached the manor. After being met with derision and given with nothing, the old man, half-dead started his way back home. At the end our person didn’t come back as he passed away on the way home.
“Sib Ir” – That name “Sib Ir” was taken as a tittle from because it has some roots from language of native tribes who used to live in Siberia long time ago. Some sources say that “Siberia” originates from the Siberian Tatar word for “sleeping land” (Sib Ir). Sleeping land is a good description of that region as the nature seems to be sleeping most of the time, especially if talking about mountains who always have snow over tops even at ot summer seasons. The region breathes with the culture of Siberian tribes as well as with the innocent and endless beauty of landscapes giving strong inspiration to those who face it.
