“One More Time…” BLINK-182’s long-awaited reunion album defines a chapter in resilience and brotherhood

Blink182 took to the digital sphere earlier today to declare the arrival of their upcoming album “One More Time…”, set to drop on October 20th through Columbia Records. The noteworthy aspect here, aside from the music itself, is the reintegration of Tom DeLonge into the ensemble. His return marks nearly a decade since Blink-182 released an album featuring the core trinity: DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker.

For those yearning for a sneak peek into the artistic and emotional strata of “One More Time…“, the band unveiled a compelling trailer, stitched together from future conversations with Zane Lowe of Apple Music and sprinkled with archival footage. Within this visual offering, the trio isn’t shy about exposing the inner workings of their relationships, laid bare by past turmoils and mended by a newfound sense of purpose.

“Blink was always a way to force the happiness in the room,” muses DeLonge in the clip. This weighty sentiment carries the tenor of the trailer, which delves into the painful separation of DeLonge from the band in 2015 and the myriad obstacles that threatened to permanently unhinge the group’s brotherhood.

When Mark Hoppus bravely announced his diagnosis with blood cancer—diffuse large B-cell lymphoma—and subsequently, his cancer-free status in April 2022, a seed of revival took root. Tom DeLonge candidly admits that this personal milestone in Hoppus’s life impelled him to reflect on what truly mattered: creating music with his friends. “The only thing I want to do,” DeLonge conceded, embodying a poignancy that tinged the air with newfound resolve.

“One More Time…” comes as a serendipitous product of the band’s 2022-2023 reunion tour, an international escapade that saw them conquering an array of arenas, amphitheaters, and stadiums. A fortuitous turn led them to a headline slot at Coachella, stepping in for Frank Ocean. With the tour set to conclude early next year, in Australia and New Zealand, this album underscores the resilience and camaraderie that steered them through.

In a conversation with Zane Lowe, Travis Barker paints the album’s title track as a poignant commentary on life’s devastating curveballs, whether it’s the near-fatal plane crash he survived in 2008 or Hoppus’ battle with cancer.

“Why does it take these catastrophes for our band to get back together?” questions Barker, touching upon the themes of the title track.

The band has graciously whetted fans’ appetites by sharing the album’s generous 17-song tracklist, a project entirely helmed by Barker’s production acumen.

“This is, without a doubt, one of the best albums we’ve ever made,” assures Hoppus, echoing a sentiment surely echoed by legions of fans who’ve ardently followed the band’s journey.

Before we arrive at the appointed release date, fans will be treated to the title track “One More Time,” which is set to debut on September 21st, accompanied by an official video. It’s a preview that promises not to disappoint, and a single that will sit alongside their previous chart-topping single “Edging,” to define a new era for Blink-182.

The trio has overcome setbacks ranging from Barker’s finger surgery to postponed tours due to family matters, such as Kourtney Kardashian’s surgery. These obstacles stand as testimonies to the band’s resilience. As DeLonge aptly concludes, “Coming out with these words, ‘One More Time,’ it’s like, ‘Hey, this is the last time we’re going to fuck this up.”
