Swollen, the solo project of Tom Krenning (they/them, co-lead of indie rock band Shady Bug, Exploding in Sound Records), delivers freaky pop / post punk songs by weaving shifting rhythms and lush guitar together with weird, frank stories of conflict, sex, and new friendships. Swollen is about the gushy, primordial, deeply feminine aspects of the human.
Tom’s brand new single “Flush” teases the new album the debut album “Smothered” on Super Wimpy Punch label and today we’re pleased to give you it’s first hearing below!
“That song is kind of about how I obliterated my foot and got an infection that would just not go away and kind of about how I felt about the world that wasn’t helping me care for my poor big ass swollen foot.” – says Tom.
“It was like that for like 3 months or something and I had terrible mobility and the doctor was so expensive and I got used to hopping around and playing shows with my foot like up on a milk crate and shit like that. Always had to have it raised or else it would swell to be quite large and be very sensitive. Which I feel is kind of how it works to deal with the oppressive messages that the society gives us. We gotta make sure we internally care for ourselves because like, traumatic power dynamics are very big and, if you don’t acknowledge how that can affect you with love, someone’s mere touch could be too much.”
