Just as two storms may converge into a more potent tempest, so too has the UK electro-punk duo WARGASM and nu-metal pioneer Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit joined forces, creating a visceral audial experience in the form of their latest single “Bang Ya Head.”
As a mouth-watering appetizer to WARGASM’s forthcoming debut album “Venom,” set to drop on October 27th, the single arrives like a brick through your living room window—impossible to ignore and defiantly disruptive.
Drawing inspiration from the inescapable grind of daily life, WARGASM’s Sam Matlock encapsulates the economic and existential dread facing a generation: “When I was working in bars it always drove me insane how much it costs us to live, and how little money we make. The world’s going fucking crazy and everything’s getting so expensive—how the fuck are we meant to buy a life? It’s just this nightmare cycle until you get lucky. Like banging your head against a brick wall over and over and over—you bang your head until you break your fucking neck.”
The track is a sonic sledgehammer of raw emotion, crafted in the dim light of a friend’s L.A. house, then tested against the delicate sensibilities of the neighborhood as it was captured on a microphone in a nondescript bathroom. Its essence lies in an aural cocktail that mixes ’90s nu-metal sensibilities with a fresh electro-punk zest, a musical Molotov cocktail ready for launch.
Fred Durst’s guest appearance isn’t merely a nostalgic nod to the nu-metal giants of the past but rather serves as a bridge, joining two eras of musicians who articulate the frustrations of youth through power chords, heavy riffs, and guttural screams.
WARGASM has already opened for Limp Bizkit during the European leg of their ‘Still Sucks’ tour, and this collaboration confirms the mutual respect and musical synergy between the artists.
The band describes their upcoming album as “heavy, melodic, disgusting, honest, sexy,” which might sound paradoxical but aligns perfectly with their mission to hammer out a sound that is as complex as it is brutally straightforward.
Having toured with Limp Bizkit and soon joining Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor on his solo tour, WARGASM seems to be on a relentless path, crashing through genre boundaries and societal norms alike.
Beyond its sonic tapestry, “Bang Ya Head” serves as an anthem for the disenchanted, the youths grappling with a world that expects them to find their place while shifting the goalposts. As a lead-in to their debut album “Venom,” this track sets the bar, not just as a piece of music but as a manifesto; an open letter to anyone who’s felt that relentless itch of existential despair amidst the chaos of modern life.
Venom is due out October 27th.
