Paris based DIY emotive indie punk rock band TRAVERSE are slowly approaching the release of their new split with GODDAMNIT from Philadelphia (feat. past members from Beach Slang, Super Hi-Five or Glocca Morra), and today we’re pleased to give you their great new tune called “Deserted World”, along with the band’s first hand commentary!
Both bands toured together in the U.S. in 2018 down to The Fest (Gainesville, FL) and thought at some point that it would be coherent to share a record together. They quickly written and recorded new songs in the summer of 2019 to release a 12″ LP before their common tour in Europe on November.
The split comes out on November 15, 2019 through Creep Records (The Bouncing Souls, Spraynard, Captain We’re Sinking,…), and serves as a follow-up to TRAVERSE’s latest self-titled album, released on March 1, 2018 through Brassneck Records, Monster Zero, Voice Of The Unheard, Fond Of Life Records, Hardcore For The Losers, No Reason Records, Fireflies Fall, Bad Mood, Joe Cool Records and Entes Anomicos.
This song is about how work has come taking so much space & time in our lives, how the task we are assigned to can be disconnected from real social & human purposes and desires, and how it affects the way we’re living through it. We give the biggest part of our lifetime for something we, most of the time, don’t see the benefits for us. What’s left to properly exist and thrive is fenced to a leisure time polluted with other injunctions, prompting us to keep the machine running or setting boundaries to our self development. We’re told since we’re kids that participating to the collective effort is mandatory, to perpetuate the paradigm. It’s also about trying to think of different ways to live with or without it, realizing that’s enough and that we don’t need to work that much. We have to reclaim some sense in our lives & our humanity instead of always being conceived as production tools. We just need to dedicate ourselves to something bigger to feel alive.
You think new words will make it easier
That you have a lot on your plate
That somehow it will get clearer
The movement may have a new name
But the pain’s still called the same
We keep signing on
Worn out with hollow bones
Burying the sunrises to come
Digging our graves for a loan
This cage has no key
We got to tear down the walls
Social status, rewards, ambition,
Awful rythms and dedication
Sacrifices, moral violationOur rotting cities take their last breath at dawn,
When our wit and limbs start to recover from their numb,
When we have nothing to trade
When the last wavering echoes of the buildings start to fade away
Warm up our hands, flesh & hearts
We worth better than this
We have way better things to beWe keep signing on
Worn out with hollow bones
Burying the sunrises to come
Digging our graves for a loan
This cage has no key
We got to tear down the wallsWe’ll choose how we’ll explode
The summer grows in us
Let’s shine and hurt ourselves for real,
Reclaim what belongs to us,
making some space for a thrill,
Only our flames can burn our candles,
We’re on the right side of the fire
Both bands recorded the songs themselves. Goddamnit did it at Creep Recording Studio in Philadelphia, PA (USA) and Traverse at Le Silo in Le Mans (France), respectively mixed by Arik Victor & Charles Quélennec. The record has been mastered by Arik Victor and the artwork made by Priscillien Gac.
