WOWS release monumental post-metal masterpiece Ver Sacrum

April 3, 2020
1 min read

Italian post-metal band WOWS release “Ver Sacrum”, a monumental album in the name of the darkest, deepest, most destructive emotions that can torment the human spirit.

The album comes five years after “Aion”, and the band’s approach to this new release surely shows the band’s intention to push the boundaries of their music productions onto unexplored territories. The pursuit of a new atmospheric balance consolidates in a quasi-live experience in the studio, in a blend of post metal and post hardcore sounds with clear picks of black metal influences.

The band comments:

“Ver Sacrum” was a sacred ritual practice in ancient Italy before the rise of the Roman Empire. The children born in a specific month of the year (in spring) were taken and raised as colonizers of new territories.

We chose this name for our album because we also wanted to explore and conquer new sonic territories, as well as for its mystical and mysterious taste that is also in our music.

“Ver” means “spring”, and the album is published in full spring. Unfortunately in this particular spring, a pandemic never seen before took over the world. We are glad to publish our music now, we hope to give comfort to the solitude that many are experiencing and we hope that this hard time come soon to an end.”

While the first single out of the record, Mythras, was unveiled with a video that matched the aggressive nature of its sounds, the full album experience takes the listener on an experimental journey among sounds and concepts. It’s a treacherous path paved in energetic drum lines, ethereal episodes, shredding riffs and emotional digressions, that leads the human soul into a world populated by today’s world worst demons.

These elements resonates even in the visual aspect of the artwork, an original painting by Paolo Girardi, drawn on specifics from the band and from suggestions of the artist.

Ver Sacrum was Recorded by Enrico Baraldi and Luca Tacconi at Sotto il Mare Studios, mixed by Enrico Baraldi at Waiting Room Audio and mastered by Claudio Adamo and Enrico Baraldi at Fonoprint and sees Giulia Parin Zecchin (Julinko) as a guest at vocals on Elysium.

The labels the band is working with are Dio Drone, Shove Records, Coypu Records, Hellbones Records.
