Philadelphia-based metal band Sunburster is gearing up for the release of their upcoming album, Trudging to Extinction, with a new track titled “Roach”, and their sludgy take on Nine Inch Nails’ track “Last”, premiering today!

“Trudging to Extinction” will be available on May 5th via Knife Hits Records on both cassette and digital formats.

Vocalist Mike Murro describes “Roach” as a reflection on the aging process and how people can change as they grow older, saying “It’s pretty much just about watching everyone around you…start to physically and mentally deteriorate and live long enough to become the villain.”

Fans can look forward to the album, which also features covers of Nine Inch Nails and The Melvins, and is the band’s follow-up to their self-titled 2021 release.

“Feeling the need to explore some paths to our inspiration we decided to cover one of our favorite songs by Nine Inch Nails, “Last”.” – comments the band’s bassist Jason Dost.

“Maybe a band that seems not to be a direct influence, but the main riff to “Last” is one of the heaviest riffs of all time. We took our heavy stoner metal approach and applied it to the original songs framework creating a rendition that not only does the original justice but offers a head banging new experience.”

“Last” is the title of the third track on Nine Inch Nails’ 1992 EP, Broken.

The song explores the emotional struggles and feelings of hopelessness that can arise from life’s hardships. Through poignant lyrics, the track portrays a character who has abandoned their efforts to find meaning in their existence and has succumbed to a nihilistic outlook. The chorus highlights their quest for fulfillment and healing, though they understand that any solution they may find is temporary and fleeting.

Last” captures the challenge of finding peace and stability in a tumultuous and unpredictable world. Ultimately, the song urges listeners to acknowledge life’s transience and to savor the present moment.
