Kansas City, Missouri’s noise rock outfit Canyons has unveiled their rendition of Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls on Parade”. The track, mixed and mastered by Chris Common (known for his work with These Arms Are Snakes, Le Butcherettes, and others), will have all proceeds from its sales donated to KCMO-based charity Steps Of Faith Foundation.
The organization helps amputees facing financial challenges by providing prosthetic limbs, which can cost between $10,000 and $100,000.
According to Steps of Faith, “Beyond living life with a disability, the financial burden for an amputee can be extraordinary. Prosthetic limbs range from $10,000 to $100,000, so without health insurance, coming up with this amount of money can seem inconceivable. There are hundreds of simple, daily tasks the average person takes for granted, such as walking up stairs, riding a bike, or simply walking across the room. An amputee knows that even with superhuman strength or years of practice, those tasks can still be impossible without the right prosthetic fit and function. The unfortunate reality is that many amputees often don’t have health insurance and the financial coverage provided by insurance companies is often not enough to cover the high cost of prosthetic needs. That’s where Steps of Faith [helps].”
Canyons, comprising Bobby Johnson and Morgan “Punch” Mabrey, along with a rotating group of friends and collaborators, chose to cover “Bulls on Parade” after an impromptu search for a nu-metal song. With the opportunity to have it mixed and mastered by Chris Common and support a local charity, the band eagerly agreed.
This release follows Canyons’ six-song collection of Clutch covers and coincides with their four-way-split with Great Falls, Dug, and Don’t Grow Old, titled Stranded, released today, May 5th, via The Ghost Is Clear Records and Learning Curve Records.
