Calgary’s metalcore band Ill Defined have dropped their latest single “Fading Further”, combining heavy breakdowns and melodic choruses, reminiscent of earlier scenes encapsulated by bands like Dying Wish and Boundaries.
Since their formation in late 2021, Ill Defined has steadily made a name for themselves with dynamic live shows and a quickly growing discography that includes their significant EP, “Wounded Memories From a Love Left Unpolished.”
“Fading Further” is a narrative piece within the broader story Ill Defined is telling across their sonic assault.
The lyrics delve into themes of despair and searching, portrayed through the journey of a man haunted by the memory of a lost lover, and his torment and struggle against the inevitability of fading memories.
“”I would hate to fade further from where we started. Running with blackened lungs to try and make up for lost time” – our main character is essentially chasing what he believes is beginning to slip from his grasp. ” – comments the band.
This single is a precursor to an EP expected to drop in late August, which will also include their previous single “Through Her Eyes.”
The band’s dedication to storytelling through music has carved out a niche for them in the metalcore scene, particularly highlighted by their rigorous touring schedule and the reception to their live performances in cities across Western Canada.
