Guadalajara emo act SURESTE drops beautiful new EP “Quiescente”

2 mins read

Guadalajara, Mexico’s Sureste have quietly but steadfastly evolved since their formation in 2016. Known for their deeply reflective, emotionally charged sound that straddles the lines between alternative rock, post-hardcore and emo rock, they’ve managed to channel personal growth and collective struggle into every note.

This has become even more evident with their upcoming EP, Quiescente, a release that not only builds on their roots but brings a fresh intensity that speaks to both nostalgia and newfound maturity.

As the band puts it, “Over the years, Sureste has grown alongside those of us who make up the band, and we are deeply grateful for the privilege of continuing to create the music we love.”

It’s at the heart of what Sureste embodies—an emotional journey that mirrors the lives of its members and their listeners. It’s this shared experience, this deep connection between the band and their audience, that fuels their creativity.

Over the last three years, they’ve crafted Quiescente, a project laced with energy, raw emotion, and attention to detail.

At a pivotal moment in their journey, the members of Sureste found themselves confronting an uncertain future for the band. Life was shifting, and they were trying to reconcile personal growth with their collective identity. The release of their new EP emerged from this period of change, where the members had to adapt their personal lives to what Sureste had become. The rapid passage of time and new life stages left them wondering whether they could continue making music together.

One of the band members in the video above reflected on how it felt like a blink, and suddenly, they were in completely different stages of their personal lives. He noted that this EP reflects the philosophy of absurdism—accepting that life has no inherent meaning but finding purpose in what you create for yourself. This realization shaped the record as a process of rediscovering themselves, balancing their lives, and giving new meaning to what they wanted to express through the band.

For them, the album signifies a balance between their professional, family, and musical lives. It’s an opportunity for growth and a way to keep doing what they love, learning more along the way, while also recognizing all they had left behind in the rush of time. The process was honest, a reflection of what each of them needed to confront or acknowledge personally.

Sureste is a reflection of their lives and what they each bring to the band.

In contrast to their earlier work, such as the EP Somos Caminos, Quiescente offers a deeper, more introspective look at time and its inevitable forward motion.

The band’s name itself, Sureste, seems to hint at direction and movement, both literal and metaphorical. Aldo, José Luis, Jacob, and Ramon navigate through frustrations, desires, and dreams, all set to the backdrop of dynamic rhythms and cathartic melodies.

Their latest work encapsulates this perfectly, blending the restless energy of post-hardcore with moments of quiet reflection, a balance that will keep you on edge yet deeply connected.
