ALPHA & OMEGA singer Luis Hernandez recently got into an altercation with members of the audience during Xibalba‘s set at their shared show in Vancouver, BC.
Here’s his explanation:
Last night during Xibalba’s set the entire tour package was hanging out and enjoying our time at the show. We were all dancing (not pitting), laughing and having a good time. I was on top of a table for the majority of the set. During the last song, Xibalba’s guitar player started dancing around next to a girl that was on the floor in front of me.
I reached down to put my hands on her shoulders to dance with her, when she turned around and punched me in the mouth three times. I stepped back and tried to calm the situation down when her boyfriend grabbed me by the neck. He told me not to do that. I pushed him off and tried to tell him that I didn’t mean anything by it, when I was then punched three more times by this girl. I’m not one to strike a woman so I walked away.
After the show I walked up to the girl to apologize for anything I did to upset her, but instead she tried punching me again. I restrained her, and asked her to please calm down and talk to me like an adult. She finally did, and once I explained myself and apologized, she also apologized and agreed that it was a misunderstanding.
But, she still wanted to argue that no one should touch anyone at a show. I disagreed and said that if you’re going to a hardcore/punk show that you should expect to get bumped into, possibly pushed, shoved or have some kind of physical contact with the crowd. She disagreed. I said we should agree to disagree and she then called me names and I walked away. That’s where my interaction with her ended.
Her boyfriend then told me that he was a pacifist but was considering putting that aside to fight me. I said that I’ve explained myself and apologized for any misunderstanding there was, but I was fine if that’s what he wanted to do. He continued to talk in circles.
I said either fight me or stop talking… or let me buy him a beer (I don’t drink but I knew he had a few drinks in him). I was trying to be nice. He kept talking so I told him to fuck off and then I walked away. That was my last interaction with the boyfriend.
From what I was told, they then went outside, bad mouthed me and told everyone that I had sexually assaulted her. Friends of mine from Vancouver and on the tour apparently defended me from what I was told but that was the end of it.
The fact that this has been so twisted and misconstrued goes to show you how damaging the internet can be. The things that I’ve seen being said are so over the top and dramatic it’s blowing my mind. I hope that my statement explains last night’s events well enough. I’ve been nothing but honest in what you’ve just read. Hopefully everyone still comes out and enjoys the tour.
