Sometimes strong emotions can make you lose focus. That’s not the case for Phoenix, AZ based hardcore band American Standards.
Since their inception in 2011, American Standards have faced their share of adversity. After losing their founding guitarist to suicide, then shortly after vocalist Brandon Kellum’s father to cancer, the band have successfully channeled the troubled waters of depression and loss while still incorporating the social commentary and sharp wit that the band has become known for.
With their 4th and most recent album ‘Anti-Melody’, distributed by Victory Records, American Standards took a new approach, mixing, producing and releasing the album independently, after recording at Kingsize Soundlabs (Mars Volta, Letlive, Bad Religion). In keeping with the band’s mantra, “Don’t wait for things to happen, make them happen”, the result is a raw and visceral, a powerful and emotive collection, pulling no punches.
Having shared the stage with a plethora of hardcore legends including Every Time I Die, Norma Jean, Comeback Kid and Knocked Loose, American Standards have hit the mark on a national scale, picking up tastemaker acclaim from Decibel Magazine, Alternative Press and Revolver.
Having announced their signing to Manic Kat Records, the Phoenix outfit have unveiled their first new song since 2019’s “Phantom Limb”.
