Australian new wave / post punk act UNDER THE CUT premiere new video “Precisely Calculated”

1 min read

UNDER THE CUT, a new new wave tunged post punk rock act featuring members THE SMITH ST. BAND, has dropped a new video for their single “Precisely Calculated”. Despite only forming in 2016 the band has released a well received full-length record, a 7 inch, and have played with bands such as Mere Woman, Horror My Friend and Bodyjar. Drawing on diverse influences from acts such as Joy Division and Fugazi the members are no strangers to the live scene, all of them having played in various Melbourne based punk and hardcore bands. Vocalist Chris Dee’s drawling vocal style is even more unique when his lyrical content is examined. As an openly gay person in the punk scene his lyrical content is refreshing, exploring themes unique to his sexuality while also holding a universal appeal.

The first single and accompanying video “Precisely Calculated” is out today (Wednesday 6th December) and available on all digital platforms worldwide! The new EP “Intuition” will be released in January 2017 through Riffbear Records.

Recorded by Sam Johnson (The Smith St Band, Camp Cope), and mastered by Mikey Young from Eddy Current Suppression Ring, the new release features some notable guests with backing vocals provided by Lucy Wilson (The Smith St Band, The Sugarcanes).

The EP release show and Riffbear Records label launch will be held 20th January at The Old Bar in Melbourne.
