The Michigan hardcore crew, Big Deal, just dropped their new single “Upper Hand“, and it’s a freakin’ banger! This is their first release on Heroes & Martyrs, a record label from New York City. The track is built on huge riffs and lyrics that will have you screaming along with the band. These guys know how to put on an epic live show, and “Upper Hand” is sure to be a fan favorite.
According to the band, Big Deal’s new single “Upper Hand” is all about the desire for control and taking charge of situations, with constant comparison to others for status and power. Their approach to hardcore has shifted since their first release, “Great Deal of Pain,” to focus on bouncy riffs and sing-along pile-ons.
When it comes to their sound, Big Deal takes inspiration from classic metal legends like Megadeth and Slayer, but they also draw from hardcore acts like Negative Approach and Carry On.
The band formed in 2021 and made a splash with their debut EP, Great Deal of Pain. They’ve already shared the stage with some heavy hitters like Fiddlehead, Trash Talk, and Mindforce, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon. They’ve got support slots lined up for Speed and No Warning, and they’re dropping a new EP later this year on Heroes & Martyrs.
The members of Big Deal consist of Joe Plonkey on vocals, Jimmy Plonkey on guitar, Wade Panizolli on guitar, Tristen Riley on bass, and Jake Friedrick on drums.
