CASH BRIBE release “Death Tax” video ahead of new EP “Demonomics”

1 min read

Brooklyn’s Cash Bribe have dropped a new single, Death Tax, with a video directed by Charlie Jordan and a release show already in the bag—April 3 at Bar Freda, Queens, alongside Torsion, Bardo, and Keefchamber. It’s the first cut from their upcoming EP Demonomics, due June 13 via Futureless.

Death Tax was recorded and mixed by Zach Miller (ex-Gel) at Landmine Studios and mastered by Sasha Stroud at Artifact Audio. The track introduces a thicker, more metallic edge to the band’s sound—what started as frantic NYHC with shades of powerviolence and punk now leans even harder into heaviness, without dropping the swagger.

“This one made it into our live sets pretty quickly,” says guitarist Kirk McGirk. “People would respond to it pretty well, and we like when we do something that makes people move.”

Lyrically, the song explores violence and entropy through a philosophical lens. Vocalist Joey Dahlstrom explains: “Death Tax comes from thinking about entropy and decay. Nature can be cruel, violent, and indifferent — the suffering seems pointless — but accepting and understanding the terms of our existence comes with a certain viriditas, an empowering vitality to approach it head-on.”

The EP Demonomics follows 2023’s Escape From New York (Fanxdangxo Records), pushing the band into darker territory while keeping one boot planted in classic beatdown riffage. Alongside tracks like the sludged-out Bay of Pigs, which leans into low-tuned, scorched rock’n’roll, and Faith Aversion, the band aims at systemic rot. “It’s a raw, unfiltered critique,” says the band, with lyrics targeting billionaire control and the social structures that maintain complacency.

The EP’s production again comes courtesy of Zach Miller at Landmine Studios, where bands like Year of the Knife and 25 Ta Life have tracked. Cover art and LP design were handled by Unexpected Spector, with photographs by Moya Ferenchak. The vinyl—dubbed “Eco Citrus”—is limited to 100 copies and up for pre-order via Quiet Panic.
