CITIZEN released the second single “Stain” on Billboard today from their highly anticipated sophomore album Everybody Is Going To Heaven out June 23, 2015 viaRun For Cover Records.
Marrying gloom and beauty with the confrontational lyrics of singer Mat Kerekes in their first single “Cement”, “Stain” shows the band continuing to evolve from the release of their wildly popular 2013 debut LP Youth. “The quintet has reached the stage where it’s dying to take its punk and hardcore influences and turn them into something new,” said Billboard of the band. “Balancing melodic composure with heavy outbursts is a constant challenge for bands like this, but Citizen sounds like it knows exactly what it wants to do.” Pre-order for Everybody Is Going To Heaven is available now via Run For Cover Records.
Recorded with Will Yip at Studio 4, Everybody Is Going To Heaven presents the most fully realized version of the band to date in spite of it being their most dissonant and chaotic material they have ever written. Members Nick Hamm (guitar, vocals), Jake Duhaime (drums), Ryland Oehlers (guitar) and Eric Hamm’s (bass) contributions are celebrated through an abrasive atmospheric core that oscillates between unforgiving and nurturing, while singer Mat Kerekes careens between distress and violent bliss, tackling a variety of heady topics.
Between the Billboard-charting debut Youth and near constant touring, Citizen have been busy. From wrapping up a headlining North America tour, selling out venues everywhere from New York to Los Angeles, then dominating their first UK/European headlining run, the band has sold over over 20,000 copies of Youth. Citizen just returned from a headlining Australian tour and will be appearing on the Journey’s Stage on the entire 2015 Vans’ Warped Tour this summer (all tour dates below).
