CREAK’s angular metalcore punctuates the UK underground: listen to “A Head Full of Rain”

1 min read

As 2023 unfurls its canvas, one name echoes across the terrain of nu metalcore: CREAK. An offspring of Newcastle’s vibrant music scene, this thunderous quartet strides ahead, crafting an audacious auditory tapestry, marrying the feral energy of metalcore with the eerie calm of atmospheric soundscapes.

Their unique approach to sound has earned them the privilege of drawing comparisons with industry behemoths like ‘Vein‘, ‘Oceans Ate Alaska‘, and ‘Alpha Wolf‘.

If CREAK‘s journey has been marked by an insurgent energy, their latest track, ‘A Head Full of Rain‘, stands testament to this dynamic.

This song unfolds as a relentless attack on the senses, an unforgiving plunge into the raw currents of chaotic blend of metal and hardcore. The track opens with a fierce onslaught of metalcore, juxtaposing the intricate and technical elements of chaotic hardcore with a strong undercurrent of mathcore reminiscence.

Yet, as the track reaches its zenith, it transforms. It morphs into a slow, punishing beatdown, not unlike a storm finally releasing its held breath, culminating in a grim, sobering conclusion.

In the recent past, CREAK has left its indelible imprint on various festivals such as ‘2000 Trees’, ‘UK Techfest’ and ‘Burn it Down Festival’, offering audiences a taste of their riveting live energy.

Backstage, they’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with formidable acts like God Complex, Palm Reader, and Graphic Nature, lending credence to their escalating momentum in the metal scene.

Off the stage, the band has been harnessing their creative force in the studio alongside ‘Connor Sweeney’, readying their debut album ‘Depth Perception‘. A bold moniker indeed, suggesting a perceptual prowess and a willingness to explore the often obscured depths of the heavy music soundscape.

The forthcoming album will find its home under the Prosthetic Records, a move that symbolizes the band’s ascent in the metal music sphere.

Depth Perception is a volatile mix of nu-metal, hardcore and metalcore that will have CREAK swiftly making their way to the upper echelons of the UK underground. The live recording achieves the near-impossible task of capturing the frenetic, unbridled vigor of their live show; their angular metalcore punctuating an eerie soundscape permeated with anxious energy. ” – says the label.

“One of the most exciting heavy bands on planet Earth right now” – Alex Baker, Kerrang!

“It was just “wow!” at my first listen.” – Music Matters

“Creak is an inspiring collective from the UK whose sonic artistry is absolutely devastating to behold.” – Highwire Daze
