It’s been a while since we’ve heard the dignified squeals of a pig slaughtered in the name of brutality, but before you flee to the moon, take note: DISTANT is here with their relentless new single, “Acolytes of Damnation.” Featuring the razor-sharp vocals of Alex Erian from DESPISED ICON, the track is an assault that marks another chapter in the band’s deathcore legacy.
This single is a part of “Tsukuyomi: The Origin,” a reimagined version of the band’s debut EP “Tsukuyomi.” Set to release on November 22, 2024, the album features seven brand-new tracks alongside six re-recorded originals. It’s a deep dive into the story of Tsukuyomi, a central figure in the band’s sprawling lore found across “The Heritage” and “The Rise of Tyrannotophia.”
Tsukuyomi, a pivotal figure in the “The Heritage” and “The Rise Of Tyrannotophia” sagas, takes center stage in this prequel. All together this album enriches the original story and highlights the evolution of DISTANT’s music and vision.
However, “Tsukuyomi” was just the point of origin. Inspired by its unique lyrical themes and vibe DISTANT also wrote seven brand new tracks that are telling the story of Tsukuyomi even more in depth. This expanded release, a retroactive “director’s cut”, is offering new fans a chance to discover the old favorites and giving longtime supporters an enriched experience.’
“Crushing breakdowns, atmospheric soundscapes, and a seamless blend of fresh and re-recorded material – Tsukuyomi: The Origin is a testament to Distant‘s unwavering dedication to crafting a truly cohesive and immersive musical experience. Distant has delivered a must-listen for any fan of the heavier side of the metal spectrum.” – Metal Injection
DISTANT has recruited some heavy hitters to mark this milestone. Beyond Alex Erian, the album boasts contributions from Matt Heafy (TRIVIUM), David Simonich (SIGNS OF THE SWARM), and Travis Worland (ENTERPRISE EARTH).
The music video for “Acolytes of Damnation” is as brutal as the song itself, with direction by Pavel Trebukhin and production design by Dima Buks. Shot with meticulous attention to detail, the video features pyrotechnics courtesy of Firestudio LV and a set dripping with dystopian horror. Jessy Fuchs from 37 Superkick handled Alex Erian’s footage, seamlessly integrating his presence into the chaos. The production team, led by Denis Kotegov, created a visual feast that matches the track’s energy.
The new single was produced by Nouri Yetgin and Simone Pietroforte, with Pietroforte also handling mixing and mastering.
The lyrics of “Acolytes of Damnation” pull no punches, delivering imagery soaked in violence and despair. The track revels in destruction, dedicated to extinction, as the band leads their acolytes through an infernal landscape.
