Extreme metal covers fast, noisy records that can also belong to death metal, black metal or grindcore. Their fast tempos and noise make them hard to mix clearly.
Norway’s Devoid Of Life spent five years on “Embracing Emptiness”, a bleak debut influenced by Ulcerate and Gojira. Berlin trio Kava Hu built “Carnivore” on eight-string guitars, dissonant riffs and mathcore turns. Athens grinders Vile Species pushed grindcore and death metal further out on “Disqualified As a Human”, and Poland’s ANTIGAMA broke a seven-year gap with an eighth album, “Whiteout”.
