Emo pop punk rockers LITTLE LOW get chased by the sun in their goofy new video for “Sunshine Guilt”

2 mins read

Boston’s own Little Low dropped a bright and chaotic music video for “Sunshine Guilt,” the title track from their debut LP, out now via Sell The Heart Records (U.S.), Thousand Island Records (Canada), and Waterslide Records (Japan).

It’s a fitting visual companion to a record built on emo-laced nostalgia, big hooks, and the kind of bittersweet energy that feels like crying in the parking lot after the best show of your life.

The song itself taps into that weird feeling of wanting to stay inside even when everything outside is warm and golden. As vocalist Christine Atturio puts it, “I lived in the Bay Area for two years and obviously it’s a very sunny place. Some days I found myself wishing it was a crappy gray day so I could hide in my apartment without feeling guilty about it.”

That’s where the phrase sunshine guilt comes in—feeling anxious or restless just because the weather’s too good to ignore. “I will preface this by saying I LOVED living on the West Coast (and ironically now I miss all that vitamin D), but my time there made me realize that I’m a New Englander at heart,” she adds. “How can you write music when it’s a super nice day out?!”

Instead of staying hidden, the band decided to face the sun head-on—literally. The video stars their friend Kyle (from Boston DJ duo The Glitter Boys) dressed in a full-body sun costume, wreaking playful havoc on the band as they try to go about their day. “We initially envisioned the sun from Mario Brothers chasing us around, which landed us on the budget-friendly idea of having a friend dress up in a sun costume and mess with us,” Christine explains. “Kyle imagined himself like a Sour Patch Kid and just ran with it.”

Shot by Justin Albaniel, the video blends that absurdity with just enough style to keep it fresh. “Justin started adding some Wes Anderson vibes to the shots too as Mike (drummer) and Kyle were shooting their skateboard scene,” Christine recalls. “It was so much fun to shoot and you can see a lot of natural laughter at Kyle’s comedic presence throughout.”

Formed by Christine Atturio (Save Ends) and Mike Assatly (Beartrap), and rounded out by Tom Ciesluk and Brad Rheault (both of Save Ends and No Trigger), Little Low sound like a band raised on The Get Up Kids, Hey Mercedes, and Jimmy Eat World, but not interested in just repeating the past. Their debut, recorded by Trevor Reilly of A Wilhelm Scream at Anchor End, is filled with bright melodies, twinkly guitars, and the kind of emotional honesty that lands best with friends screaming the words right back at you.

Sunshine Guilt” the video leans into the silly side of existential dread, and somehow makes getting tackled by a guy in a giant sun suit feel oddly relatable.
