Loma Baja, the experimental music collective consisting of Pacomoto (G.A.S. Drummers), Jorge García (Adrift, El Páramo), Víctor Teixeira (Giganto, Another Kind Of Dead), and Raúl Lorenzo (Sou Edipo), release their second single, “La Emboscada,” today, and we’re stoked to be a part of the event, with this special first hearing of the intriguing single below.

This comes as a follow-up to their first single, “Boda Final / Velorio,” which was released on April 26th, generating considerable buzz and anticipation for their upcoming debut album, ‘Piscinas Verticales.’

The creation of ‘Piscinas Verticales’ was a unique and liberating process for Loma Baja. Seeking to tap into their creative depths, the musicians embarked on a journey of experimentation and automatic writing, allowing their musical expressions to flow freely.

The result is an album that transcends conventional music genres and delves into the realms of the spontaneous and surreal, resembling the soundtrack to one’s darkest nightmares. Drawing influences from a diverse range of artists such as Beak, Portishead, Fugazi, True Widow, and Liars, Loma Baja’s sound can be described as “post-everything.”

Speaking about the album, the band members stated, “It’s about nightmares, places that generate strange feelings, and the hidden side of things. The songs seek to create that lingering sensation that accompanies you after witnessing something bizarre. ‘Piscinas Verticales’ is the product of four individuals from different backgrounds finding common ground in darkness. Through a process of trial and error, we blended elements of kraut-rock, post-punk, alt-rock, post-rock, and other exotic musical styles.”

‘Piscinas Verticales’ was recorded live during the summer of 2022 at Metropol Studios in Spain, under the guidance of Rafa Camisón. The album was mixed at Estudio 79, also in Spain, by Rafa Camisón, and mastered at Ultramarinos Costa Brava by Víctor García. Showcasing their international appeal, the album is set to be released on May 26th, 2023, through a collaboration between several indie labels including Spinda Records (Spain), Lay Bare Recordings (Netherlands), Clostridium Records (Germany), and Echodelick Records (United States). Fans can pre-order the album from the label websites starting April 21st, creating further excitement and anticipation for the full release.

With ‘Piscinas Verticales’ just around the corner, this enigmatic collective promises an album that will captivate audiences and immerse them in a world of sonic experimentation and evocative artistry. Don’t leave these guys under the radar, and follow them via their Instagram.
