Interviewed for IDIOTEQ in early 2013, NJ’s post hardcore band GATHERER is back with a new 7”, music video, and some great news about making a step further.
Lyrics:
Pass it down the frequencies
Carve initials on the pipebomb
or you could kill yourself complacently
liberated on a chainWhere is your contingency?
Where is your relief?
Dig your hands into the ground
Bring us back sleepStrip it down
Buy it up
We combust
Give us blood
Size it up
God deluxeSell your faith
Strange we meet this way
You barter love in lieu of our trustSuperstitious days
Load up your gun and let the shake of your grip break
Dig your hands into the ground
Strange we meet this way
Board it up
Load your gunSuperstitious days
Here’s the official word from the label:
“It’s very humbling to be part of such a legendary label. As a band, we credit so much of the Equal Vision catalog for shaping us into the musicians we are today,” Gatherer shares. “It’s always been a label with an undeniable reputation for staying ahead of the curve, and being able to say we’re contributing to it is truly exciting.”
“God Deluxe” comes from Gatherer’s new, one-song 7″ vinyl, which is available for pre-order now. The song will also be featured on the band’s forthcoming full-length, that will be released later this year.
“This was one of the last songs we wrote for our upcoming full-length but ultimately we liked the idea of opening our record with this utterly filthy bass line,” the band reveals. “Thematically, “God Deluxe” deals with consumerism and our constant need to industrialize at all costs. There’s something terribly ugly with a culture that thrives on false needs many of which delude people to the point of detachment from one another. Who can build it higher? Who can wear it sexier? Whatever it is, we need it now and we will literally kill for it.”
Gatherer released their first EP Postcards in March 2012, followed by their debut full-length Caught Between a Rock and a Sad Place in June 2013. Details on their next full-length release and the band’s summer tour plans, which will include a massive full US run, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Gatherer is comprised of Rich Weinberger (vocals), Adam Cichocki (drums), Matt Popowski (bass), Austin Lipinski (guitar), and Gianmarco Felix Guerra-Coletti (guitar).
