Post-hardcore grew from hardcore punk in the early and mid-1980s as bands kept its urgency and DIY basis while opening songs to wider dynamics and more complex structures. Fugazi and Quicksand are two well-known examples of bands with hardcore roots expanding the form, while British post-punk also fed into the vocabulary through Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd, Joy Division and Wire.
IDIOTEQ has a deep archive around those changes. In 2026 Break To Broken traced a direct line back to 1990s Dischord-influenced writing, while Inkwell reopened a short chapter of Atlanta hardcore history. Acróbata. brought the term into Puebla, Mexico, and Splosh connected it with Moscow screamo.
Dead Tired keep a direct hardcore connection, New Forms push toward emoviolence, and Time Spent Driving sit closer to the melodic and emo side.
