He Watches in Silence: GOD COMPLEX return with feral intent

1 min read

God Complex are back with He Watches in Silence, their new EP set for release on February 21 via SharpTone Records.

As a statement of intent, the band have dropped Depraved Idol, a blistering single that leans hard into their signature mix of unrelenting aggression and raw precision.

The band isn’t interested in a polished rebirth. “We deliberately avoided lengthy pre-production and allowed small variations in the recordings to embrace the mess and chaos that sit at the heart of our sound,” they explain. The goal wasn’t just to return—it was to push further into something even more feral. “We wanted to create something more refined and savage than anything we’ve previously attempted.”

That instinct drives Depraved Idol. Conceptually, the track builds on destruction and renewal, twisting the traditional image of The Green Man into something harsher. “He’s almost never depicted as a god demanding sacrifice,” the band says. “So our imagining is one where the renewal he symbolizes can only be attained through suffering and loss — a Depraved Idol.”

That tension—between rebirth and destruction, control and chaos—runs through the entire EP. “The metaphor most people use to describe rebirth is the phoenix or a change of seasons,” they say. “But a more accurate image for this EP is a cornered animal. Something a bit feral with its drive to sustain itself untethered from restraint.”
