HISTORYOFLIFE channels raw 90s hardcore energy with great new Demo

1 min read

Historyoflife formed in 2013 in Tasikmalaya, West Java – Indonesia, when most of its members were still in high school and middle school.

One founding member who remains is vocalist (and former drummer) Eka Garaha Persada.

They released their debut EP Complexity in 2023, then followed it up in 2024 with a maxi-single titled Deceiver/Turning Point.

Now they’ve returned with Demo’25 at the start of the new year, accompanied by a lineup change and a set of three tracks that reflect the tough realities they see around them.

Big Joke tackles police abuse, which the band sees growing across Indonesia. Bara Kausa—Historyoflife’s first song in Indonesian—carries a message for friends and comrades striving for justice. Unseen shifts the focus to the grief of a child born into Palestine’s unending conflict.

“We’ve recently started revisiting and appreciating the raw energy of 90s hardcore, and it’s been a rewarding experience,” they said. “Strife, Chokehold, Unbroken, Earth Crisis, and Envision were major influences in shaping this demo.”

Outside their own music, Historyoflife acknowledges other Tasikmalaya bands like Tigerwork, Sarkas, and Stompin Potential, who share the city’s evolving scene. Be sure to give these crew a listen, too!
