‘I Ate Myself To Grow Twice As Big’ by 30 000 MONKIES serves an eerie, twisted, angry, haunting and hypnotic experience!

After having released two incredible EP’s, “Womb Eater Wife Beater” in 2011 and “Somewhere Over The Painbow” in 2013, and building up quite the live reputation, Belgium’s 30 000 MONKIES are finally ready to storm into the limelight with their debut full length “I Ate Myself to Grow Twice as Big”. Their very particular nonsensical sense of humor, present in the song titles and lyrics, is a perfect companion to their music: absurdly, yet effortlessly, blending sludge, doom and solid riffing with noise and psychedelic drones, the band takes you to all kinds of places all at once. 30 000 MONKIES is truly one of the most exciting young bands to emerge from Belgium’s effervescent musical scene and now they are finally presenting their debut album, which is a highly exciting and raucous concoction of disparate styles. As the illegitimate child of a night full of debauchery between Sleep, The Melvins, Melt Banana, Harvey Milk, McLusky, Lightning Bolt and even Merzbow, 30,000 Monkies most certainly ticks all the right boxes so, be prepared for this tasty feast!

“…a rad, adventurous listen. If you like your music weird in a sophisticated way…”

“Fuelled by the ramblings of Harvey Milk and The Jesus Lizard, warped by the leftover bong waters of a demonic doom presence, 30,000 Monkies sound like many, and yet like none. I’ll still wear that t-shirt with pride.”

“As if the band’s name and the album’s title didn’t give it away: this shit is weird as fuck. Oftentimes that’s not a good thing. Sometimes it is though, and this is one of those times! Punchy, experimental, blackened, noisy, etc. It’s the experimentation here which makes the sale.”
