John Harmon (bass) commented:

First and foremost, thank you to everyone that ordered ‘Cursed’ the first time ’round. We apologize for any inconveniences and appreciate your patience in seeing this record come to fruition. Sometimes unexpected delays present themselves and in this case, it became clear that Doghouse and Jowls didn’t understand each others’ intentions. It was a bad fit that ultimately ended in both parties moving in opposite directions.

While it was an unfortunate situation, we absolutely feel this was for the best. We appreciate the work Doghouse did for Jowls over our short history, but with that said, we couldn’t be happier to be working with Tiny Engines. We’ve all had ties to Will, Jeff and Chuck through past bands and when we mentioned what happened with Doghouse, they took an immediate interest in releasing the record. It felt like a natural fit on all levels and we couldn’t be more excited about seeing this project come to light.

The label issued the following statement:

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, Restorations, Dikembe) is thrilled to welcome Jowls to its expanding roster of bands. The independent label will release the Grand Rapids, MI outfit’s new EP, Cursed , in the Fall of 2012 on 10″ vinyl and digital formats. Originally slated to come out on Doghouse Records in May of this year, the band and label amicably parted ways recently. Subsequently, Tiny Engines and Jowls quickly agreed to partner up for the release. Read more about it exclusively at Punknews.

You can stream “Ruins” and “Long-Winded” from Cursedhere. Pre-orders coming in September!

Harkening back to 90’s hardcore/noise rock, Grand Rapids, MI based Jowls are a breath of fresh air on their debut as a trio. Originally formed as a duo from the ashes of Victor Fix The Sun the band recorded a demo and split 7″ with fellow Michigan rockers, The Reptilian. In late 2011 the duo officially expanded with the addition of bassist John Harmon who played in Chicago noise rock band, Cloud Mouth. With that sprung the Cursed recordings which show a tremendous refinement in sound and scope. Jowls’ brand of hardcore is unabashedly aggressive but also flexes a keen sense of dynamics and dare I say, even melody. Cursed is the sound of controlled chaos, of confidence exploding in measured amounts of brain and brawn. This is not aggression without purpose, every note here serves the whole. Every scream and every instrumental explosion serves as a lifeforce, as musical bread for a starved feeding. Jowls is absolutely vital.

– Yet, beneath the tidal wave of pounding guitars and pummeling percussion, the stark melodies and ever-present churning-like songwriting create suspension-like experiences at one moment – then weave with furor and purpose at the next. – Absolute Punk
– Jowls will drop your jaws and if you’re lucky maybe they will step on them too with their driving guitars and tasteful screams. – Delusions Of Adequacy
– In a sea of mediocre bullshit hardcore sits Cursed. Featuring members of Victor! Fix the Sun and Cloud Mouth, Jowls call back to the Gravity Records-era of hardcore, walking the line of melody and chaos. – Forget The Radio
