Rough Dreams, the quartet that captivated local audiences of Knoxville with their grunge-infused emo-punk sounds since 2018, is back with a brand-new EP titled “The Escaped.” This latest offering consists of four tracks and you can stream it below!
Building upon the stylistic nuances of their debut self-titled EP from 2019 and their 2021 album “Disappear. Reappear,” the band continues to merge classic punk rock flair with a modern approach, creating an emotive and nostalgic sound that fans of The Gaslight Anthem, Spanish Love Songs, and The Menzingers will relish.
“The Escaped” opens with “Dying Inside,” a high-energy, emotive track that instantly pulls listeners into the Rough Dreams soundscape. The second track, “Selling the Trauma,” retains the intensity while delving into the band’s more emotional narrative style. “Over It” brings a more introspective vibe, setting the stage for the culminating title track “The Escaped,” which serves as a powerful climax for this short sonic journey.
This new EP was recorded in Cleveland, OH, last October and was produced by none other than legendary producer Jim Wirt.
The band commented, “We recorded these songs in Cleveland, OH back in October with legendary producer Jim Wirt,” underscoring the level of expertise that has gone into this project.
Rough Dreams delivers what can only be described as a very listenable experience, one that infuses classic punk rock elements with an updated, heartfelt approach. The sound is very dynamic, underscoring the band’s evolution since its formation by guitarist and vocalist Jake Jones in 2018. With Chris Suggs, Matt Isbell, and Paul Lowe rounding out the ensemble, the band has a matured, well-rounded sonic identity that makes “The Escaped” a worthy addition to the discography of any fan of genuine underground punk rock.
After signing with 59 X Records and releasing their earlier works, Rough Dreams has been consistently hitting the road, expanding their fan base, and drawing the attention of industry veterans. “The Escaped” is poised to elevate the band’s status even further, reinforcing their reputation for delivering honest, relatable storytelling combined with big, hooky, anthemic punk rock.
“The Escaped” is available today on all major streaming platforms. Given the band’s history of fervent touring, you can also expect live performances featuring tracks from the new EP in the near future.
