“Violet,” the latest single from L.S. Dunes, might just be their most compelling track yet—or at least a close second to “Machines,” which has already set a high bar for their forthcoming album.
This title track, now available to stream, seems to distill everything the band has been building toward, offering a glimpse of the more cohesive sound they’ve developed since Past Lives.
Bassist Tim Payne acknowledges the song’s pivotal role in shaping the band’s identity: “I think Violet is the song that fully encapsulates everything we do as a band. Frank brought the demo to the band as a fully structured song, and it seemed that we all just knew immediately what we had to do. I hear quite a few elements from songs on Past Lives, but it’s filtered through the lens of a more established musical language between us, and we were able to take this already incredible song Frank wrote and elevate it to a place I don’t think any of us imagined it could go.”
What sets “Violet” apart is not just the interplay of its members but its emotional core, something Anthony Green touches on when describing its thematic weight: “This song is about someone getting exactly what they deserve. This song helped me get through the feeling of being ghosted.”
The accompanying video, directed by Ian Shelton, doesn’t shy away from intensity. It mirrors the track’s themes of reckoning and release, with visuals that are as direct and raw as the lyrics. It was produced by Vizionary.
Recorded and mixed by Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA, the album promises a deeper dive into their established sound, now honed by their growing synergy as a unit. Can’t wait to hear the whole thing.
With their U.S. tour with Rise Against just wrapped up, L.S. Dunes is set to take their momentum overseas, hitting the UK and Europe in early 2025.
