It’s been a while since we dropped a word about this Los Angeles band WHALE FALL, so it’s our pleasure to report that the band is still active and is releasing their fourth album, entitled It Will Become Itself, on March 27th.
The album is the result of a semi-improvisational studio session in which the band performed and recorded most of the album live as one continuous piece. They came back to it late last year, tweaking some elements and adding an introductory piano piece, but the album is largely a direct representation of that initial session.
The results are freely moving and organic, flowing through jazz, post-rock, progressive and art rock territories, a dreamy and optimistic album that is the perfect antidote for the anxious times currently facing us.
The new single, an excerpt from the 18-minute “El Caracol,” premiered earlier this week at Heavy Blog Is Heavy and you can hear it below!
It Will Become Itself will be released independently in its entirety on March 27th digitally and on CD through the band. Pre-orders for vinyl begin the same day.
