Almost a decade has passed since we first covered TREEHOUSES 2290 (see our video interview HERE), a band born from Lisbon’s hardcore punk roots, blending indie rock, shoegaze, and punk with a sincerity that resonated widely.
Today, it’s a rare but welcome pleasure to announce their comeback with a new EP, Dez, set for release on November 15, 2024. This EP is a celebration of shared history, creative persistence, and a testament to the band’s commitment to DIY.
Dez took two years to complete, with band members scattered across Europe, collaborating remotely from Lisbon, Berlin, Łódź, and Warsaw.
Each track on the EP reflects the band’s return to their foundational rawness and energy, while also capturing the maturity that only time and experience can bring. It’s clear they haven’t lost the intense emotional punch that marked their earlier works like The Difference Between a House and a Home or the self-titled Treehouses 2290 EP.
The lead single “Honesty” lays bare the emotional weight of toxic relationships and dependency. André Isidro’s vocals cut through with vulnerability and frustration, mirroring the angst and self-preservation that such relationships often demand.
With influences from bands like FIDDLEHEAD and BASEMENT, Dez feels deeply personal but carries a universal appeal that’s sure to resonate. This rawness is paired with an undeniable DIY spirit; every step—from writing to production and artwork—was handled by the band, self-funded and uncompromisingly independent.
After their 2016 hiatus, the members each pursued new paths. Isidro, the vocalist, shifted focus to engineering and production, collaborating with notable Portuguese artists such as LINCHPIN, REIA CIBELE, and HETTA. Simões and Medley explored electronic music with their project RLGNS, carving out a niche for themselves. Meanwhile, Aragão and Beirão stayed connected to music in their own ways, though with a quieter presence.
