Recorded at Virtue and Vice Studios and Perimeter Recording in Brooklyn, NY in the fall of 2016, and produced by Kyle Joseph, the debut self-release by Seattle based experimental / alt rock duo MONITOR is a very rare creature. Just like two previously released singles, “Data Points”, the newest offering we’re premiering below, combines varied rock soundscapes with tender synth hooks and electronics in a sonic palette that charms and mystifies. It’s both a delicate, and at the same time intense and trippy odyssey that should make listeners appreciative of their depth and unique feel. Listen for yourself.
“Data Points is directly inspired by my experience working in the tech industry in Silicon Valley. The lyrics reflect an admittedly cynical view of the way the software companies track and store everything you do in order to make profit from you, and often at the expense of your privacy and security. It’s certainly a complex issue, but what I’m mainly concerned about is that people tend to be blissfully unaware of the ways in which their usage of apps on their phones is constantly being monitored.” – Connor
Monitor is a Seattle-based alternative indie-rock band. Vocalist Dave Raskin and guitarist Connor Smith have been playing together since they met at Bowdoin College in 2009 and have just finished their first full-length release, entitled ‘Memorand’, recorded last Winter in Brooklyn, New York. The album explores an eclectic group of arrangements that showcase the diversity of Smith and Raskin’s songwriting styles, all tied together by the obvious comfort which they have developed in 7 years of experience performing together. The band currently resides in North Seattle, where it’s preparing for a series of shows throughout the Northwest intended to promote the album’s Fall release with drummer Pete Fitton.
Catch the band live at the record release show at Stone Way Café in Seattle, Washington on October 7th. RSVP HERE and see the official word from the band:
Join us for the release of our debut album: Memorand! We’ve poured a lot of ourselves into this project, and it would mean the world for us to be able to share it with our closest friends. Bring your husband, wife, coworkers, friends, partner, children, mailman, dog walker, lyft driver, yoga instructor, barista, hair stylist, or evil twin. Featuring an intimate acoustic performance from Jt Royster and our first ever headlining gig. The music starts right at 7 and ends at 9, so it’s never been easier to support local Seattle music!
