MOUTH FOR WAR navigates tradition and modernity in metalcore with fierce new single “Under The Gun”

3 mins read

With their lineage tracing back to bands like Bruise and Remain and Sustain, Colorado-based quintet Mouth For War illustrates a narrative that’s rooted in authenticity. Formed in 2019, they didn’t just tiptoe into the scene; they stormed it.

With the debut EP, An Ear Kept to the Ground, and subsequent tours, Mouth For War set the stage alight, invoking memories of classic sounds reminiscent of Kickback and Sentence, but with a contemporary undertone echoing Lamb of God and The Devil Wears Prada.

Despite the global setbacks of COVID, Mouth For War have no intention of slowing their roll and will grind hard as soon as the smoke clears. Fast forward two years later, freshly signed to MNRK Heavy, the band is back with their new music, and today we’re finalyl able to witness it in its full glory.

With whispers and anticipation enveloping their every move, Mouth For War has unveiled a new banger, new single dubbed “Under the Gun“.

MOUTH FOR WAR focuses on manifesting crushing breakdowns laced with visceral grooves that echo somber melodies. Of the band’s critically lauded, debut LP, Life Cast In Glass, Blabbermouth championed the band’s knack for creating riffs, “that will make you want to run through a brick wall,” while Dead Rhetoric praised a, “visceral and intense attack that will make you catch your breath,” adding, “MOUTH FOR WAR snuggly nestles into that blurry metal and hardcore line that manages to take the best of both worlds and craft an experience that is both memorable and completely destructive.”

Comments MNRK Heavy’s SVP of Rock & Metal, Scott Givens, of the band’s signing, “MOUTH FOR WAR is a great addition to the label and they have delivered an amazing record for us. They create a lethal combination of metal/hardcore that we can’t wait to unleash.”
In celebration of their singing, today MOUTH FOR WAR drops their latest single, “Under The Gun,” and its companion video. Comments the band on the punishing new track, “MOUTH FOR WAR is ecstatic to give you our new track ‘Under The Gun’ after such a long wait. We are undergoing a new era of sonic aggression and we chose our heaviest song yet to bring to you first. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”

To label it merely as a song would be a disservice. It is an intense metalcore odyssey. Commencing with an enthralling explosion of mosh-inviting riffs and thunderous drum beats, the track promises listeners a short, yet unparalleled journey. As it progresses, the audacious mix evolves into an auditory tempest, gearing the listener up for a climax of intensified fervor.

The latter half of the song is reminiscent of a machine gun’s relentless fire, as riffs and guitars engage in a tempestuous dance, each vying for dominance. And just when one thinks the ferocity has reached its pinnacle, the track tapers, offering a momentary respite before its conclusion.

Established in 2019, MOUTH FOR WAR launched their first EP, An Ear Kept To The Ground. They swiftly embarked on a touring journey, which was abruptly halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While many bands struggled during this period, MOUTH FOR WAR utilized the break to craft their premiere LP, Life Cast In Glass, featuring tracks filled with sorrow.

This album, released under 1126 Records, significantly boosted the band’s recognition and set their trajectory towards national acclaim. They have since toured across the US alongside bands like Bodysnatcher, Boundaries, and ZAO, and have shared the stage with big names like Knocked Loose and Malevolence, captivating audiences with their electrifying performances.

Details about MOUTH FOR WAR’s forthcoming album will be revealed soon. If you’re a fan of Hatebreed, Terror, or Madball, stay tuned.
