“No Anchor” is MISSION TO SLEEP’s farewell to the self that no longer fits

1 min read

Boston-based rock outfit Mission to Sleep will release their debut LP A Spark or The End on April 25, 2025, through Mind Over Matter Records. Today, they premiere the new single “No Anchor” along with a monochrome video directed by Michael Higgs, known for his work with Bad Rabbits, Microwave, and The Front Bottoms. The release also marks the launch of the album’s vinyl and digital pre-orders.

Written, recorded, and produced by vocalist Rob Wu, and mixed and mastered by Eric Mitchell (Glassjaw, Head Automatica, Fever 333), “No Anchor” opens the record with a surge of tension and release. Guitars collapse into ambient passages before crashing back with full post-hardcore intensity. Vocals alternate between hushed and frayed, dragging the listener through a raw internal unraveling.

“This song represents a long-overdue metamorphosis, a cathartic shedding of a rendering that no longer served me,” Wu says. “Maybe some of you can identify with this but I feel like I’ve spent too much time seeking validation from the wrong places — even from people I wouldn’t take advice from or trust. I was living a version of my life that didn’t fully resonate with who I knew I was at my core. This is a farewell song to my old self.”

“No Anchor” sets the tone for A Spark or The End, which follows the band’s two previous EPs — Post Youth (2022) and White Death (2023). The full album includes guest appearances by Christopher Preece (Inspirit, Vanna) and Sarah Jeanne (Aversed), expanding the sonic and emotional range.

The LP arrives after a string of sold-out shows and includes two tracks already placed in independent film soundtracks, including their 2020 single “Wash Over Me.” Mission to Sleep is currently endorsed by Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Drumsticks, Ernie Ball Strings, and Music Man Guitars & Basses.
