NYC hardcore band CHUMHUFFER confronts chaos with “Slaughterhouse”

1 min read

NYC hardcore band ChumHuffer has announced the release of their new single and video “Slaughterhouse,” a direct precursor to their upcoming third studio EP, Slaughterhouse Five. Set for a May 2025 release on 7″ vinyl through DWY Records, the EP—a punk rock exploration of time, self-definition, and inner conflict—draws its title from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel, reflecting the unsettling parallels between wartime chaos and today’s global unrest.

Addressing the record’s thematic focus, vocalist and guitarist Joe Dorane stated, “When you step back and look at the world, it’s impossible not to feel buried by the endless barrage of conflict—whether it’s across the globe or in our own minds. This record is our way of confronting that overwhelming reality. It’s both a critique and a response to the ceaseless cycles of violence. ‘So it goes.’”

Singer Shawn Refuse echoed this sentiment, adding, “Much like Vonnegut’s Billy Pilgrim, we feel like we’re stuck in time. The album explores the clash between what was, what could be, and what’s real, while also reflecting on the internal struggle to maintain a personal moral compass amidst all the chaos.”

In tandem with the EP announcement, ChumHuffer has released the single “Slaughterhouse.” An exclusive video premiere has been arranged in collaboration with Hardcore Worldwide, with the video available for viewing online. Pre-orders for Slaughterhouse Five open on February 15 at chumhuffer.com.

ChumHuffer is also set to perform at upcoming shows:

Feb 15: New York, NY – Moosefest 2025 @ Otto’s Shrunken Head
Mar 22: Amityville, NY – Amity Music Hall
