POINT MORT premieres “Le Point de Non-Retour”, a genre-blending single

1 min read

This isn’t the kind of post-hardcore you’re used to, at least in our pages. Paris-based Point Mort stretches the boundaries of the wide raning style, diving into a sound that’s equal parts rock, pop, hip-hop, hardcore, and progressive metal. Their new single, Le Point de Non-Retour, released with a new music video on January 14th via Idioteq, is a prime example of their progressive and fearless approach to songwriting.

Le Point de Non-Retour, the title track from their upcoming sophomore album, marks a turning point for the band. With straightforward structure—rapped verses, pop-metal choruses, and a crushing, orchestral outro—it’s a track that refuses to tiptoe around its message. As the band describes it, “No regrets, no return.”

The ending, a sonic steamroller, contrasts sharply with the track’s groovier, hip-hop-inflected opening, leaving a lasting impression.

Sam, the band’s vocalist, explained how the song came together: “I’d been wanting to introduce some rap inspiration into our songs for quite some time. I was listening to a lot of Clipping. when I wrote the vocals, and the nonchalant rap feel came naturally.”

“This is the first time we’ve written something in such a readable format—verse, chorus, bridge—and I wanted to lean into hyperpop for the backing vocals. The ending, crushing everything in its path, just made sense.”

Set for release on April 25th, 2025, via Almost Famous, Le Point de Non-Retour is an album where Point Mort steps further into their unique sound. Drawing inspiration from rap, pop, and even funk, the album is a declaration of artistic freedom.

As the band puts it, “In its beautiful violence, there are now chunks of rap, pop, and even funk. Each song expresses clearly what the album states: there is no coming back.”

With plans to hit the road in April and May 2025, Point Mort is gearing up to share their work with European crowds. “We aim to reach new listeners and perform as big as we can,” they shared.

And for fans curious about the music video’s opening scene, it features Bruce, a cat who, according to Sam, “owns a cat-stle where two of our human friends live.” Bruce graciously allowed the band to shoot their photos and clips on his property, adding a personal touch to the visuals.
