Polish rock trio Bagdad have unveiled their latest track, “Somewhere, Nowhere,” the second preview of their debut EP They Don’t Know, set for release on March 27, 2025, via Houston’s Rite Field Records.
The song digs into themes of regret and lost chances, carried by soaring riffs and Franciszek Drobiński’s wistful vocals. Bright-toned guitars contrast with the weight of the lyrics, reinforcing the band’s knack for balancing emotional depth with a raw, unfiltered sound.
“‘Somewhere, Nowhere’ is a song that was in the making for quite a long time,” Drobiński explains. “I wrote the music in 2019, in my senior year of high school, and then completely forgot about it, leaving it somewhere among hundreds of other recordings in my voice memos. I unearthed it three years later and added the lyrics. It’s a simple song about a breakup, but it’s also the first song we worked on together as a band, so it’s quite special to us.”
Recorded in the summer of 2024, They Don’t Know channels a mix of 90s grunge energy and slowcore’s heavy atmosphere. Bagdad shape these influences into something distinctly their own, a sound that has already drawn attention from publications like The Line of Best Fit, The Aux, and Melodic Magazine.
To mark the EP’s announcement, Bagdad previously released their debut single, “Valley of Dry Bones.” The track leans into the more brooding side of 90s alternative rock, layering hypnotic melodies with a deep-seated melancholy. Drobiński’s vocals, paired with Wojciech Stach’s basslines and Jakub Gadamski’s precise drumming, form the backbone of the band’s sound, one that taps into Eastern European melancholia without losing its punch.
Artwork for the EP was created by Waldemar Cwenarski, visually tying into the themes of introspection and emotional release that run through the record.
Formed in Wrocław in the fall of 2023, Bagdad began as a project between school friends Drobiński and Stach before Gadamski joined, solidifying their lineup. Their music walks the line between grunge’s unpolished force and slowcore’s measured intensity, blending nostalgia with an edge of modern urgency.
Founded in 2023 by Joseph and Parker Hernandez (Gneiss Sounds) and Abraham Valladares (End on End Prints), Houston-based Rite Field Records is an independent label dedicated to supporting artists through fair opportunities and career development. Their focus is on building community and giving musicians the tools they need to navigate the industry on their own terms.
