In the ever-vibrant music scene of our beloved Oslo, a newly formed ensemble has captured our attention with its unrelenting energy and profound punk heritage. They go by the name Invisible Hand, and their debut EP, released in late May, resonates through the punk realm with the wild spirit of rock and roll infused into hardcore punk.
The band is a mesh of seasoned performers from a variety of other punk bands, namely Problems, Negativ, Purple-X, and others. Notably, the band also includes Christian, the vocalist from the celebrated Norwegian melodic hardcore band, Death is Not Glamorous, whose tenure stretched from 2005 to 2014.
Christian, in an exclusive comment, delved into the formation and current status of the band: “We formed Invisible Hand in 2022… Toshi (bass), Kenneth (guitar), and Mathias (drums) had been jamming together for a while, and I was fortunate enough to just kind of drop into the mix. We have all played in a bunch of other punk bands previously… We recorded five songs there in the spring, and have a bunch of new ones in the works.”
Regarding the newly released EP, Christian refrained from giving a track-by-track analysis but made it clear that these songs firmly echo their punk roots. They hint at the band’s musical lineage and the driving force behind their collective creative spirit: “Punk forever“.
He also speaks glowingly of the current music scene in Oslo, highlighting bands like Accelerator, Asinin, Assistert Sjølmord, Teppebombe, Draumar, Weight, and Modern Love. All these bands, with their unique styles, contribute to the vibrant punk scene in the city. Christian’s enthusiasm for these bands is palpable, and his love for the genre and the scene is infectious.
As for what the future holds for Invisible Hand, the band is preparing for their first live show next month. If their debut EP is any indication of what’s to come, attendees can expect a dynamic, explosive performance that channels the spirit of punk and the raw energy of rock and roll.
