RANCID, PENNYWISE, & SUICIDAL TENDENCIES members form new band: THE CREW shares “One Voice”

1 min read

Tim Armstrong (Rancid), vocalist and guitarist Fletcher Dragge (Pennywise), vocalist Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies), bassist Matt Freeman (Rancid), and drummer Byron McMackin (Pennywise) have teamed up for a new project called THE CREW! The band just released their first single, “One Voice“!

Fletcher Dragge (Pennywise) comments: “Collaborating with Tim Armstrong, Mike Muir, And Matt Freeman has been an awesome experience, obviously Byron Mcmackin and I go way back. Byron and I had a demo of ‘One Voice’ laying around for couple years, and I thought it would be cool to bring a couple old friends on board to breath some new life into it. Watching these guys lay down their own personal trademark styles on this song was nothing short of amazing! I think it’s safe to safe we’re all pretty fucking stoked on the final product, and being able to donate proceeds to Musack feels pretty awesome as well. Find it, crank it up, and enjoy!”

“Musack started after a number of teen suicides in my hometown (nantucket island) … the isolation and claustrophobia of the winter there and being a teen in general… I really thought about what got me through the long winters and the teen years. — and the answer was music… a new band/song would somehow appear and change everything… the clash … ramones… the specials… dead kennedys… this is boston not LA … would somehow appear and then you could SHOUT it off … all the hopeless bull shit… all the being told what to do …. it connected you to the world and made it possible to get through one more day…. ANYWAY One VOICE hits all the notes… and as musack has grown from nantucket to alaska to the east bay… the pine ridge rez and compton … navajo rez to appalachia … haiti and cuba to indigenous kids in australia… the islands of isolation are everywhere… our mission was just to give voice through music wherever we could help — with instruments or supporting a teacher — or setting up a recording studio… We hear the kids raging and rockin all over now… inspired by woody guthrie’s guitar — “this machine kills fascists” — we always tell the kids “this machine will do whatever you want it to do..” make a girl love you…. tell your teachers to fuck off… kill a bad mood… whatever you need!

ANYWAY — it’s been a long year — tough year to be a human — the islands got smaller… weirder … scarier… to be a teen right now? SHIT! I am so excited for us all to come out of hiding RAGING with this tune… we’re back — we’re here — we’re ready to rock. — and dance. — one voice — fuck you… xxx donick (FROM MUSACK)”

“One Voice” is out now on Epitaph Records. The 7″ single version of the song is coming soon from Stay Free Recordings!
