Vienna based post hardcore act SMALL HOURS have just dropped their new video for the song “Relevant Lies”, and we’re stoked to host this premiere for English speaking audience! Recorded by Christian Wallner, mixed and mastered by Ronald Dangl, the track comes from their new full length album “Reconstruction”, to be released on March 2nd via LaserLife Records! Influenced by 80s DIY-punk acts and today’s contemporary post-hardcore genre-stretchers, the organic, yet gritty record offers a glance at where this type of sound has been, and a nice look at where he’s going these days. If you have a good 80s/’90s post-hardcore itch that needs scratching – here’s something for your listening pleasure.
The band commented:
“What’s the price to pay for the life on social media? Attention and love defined by clicks and likes? With the consequence to live under surveillance through day and night? Somehow we just get apathetic and predictable for companies and government. The next, new, “must have” gadget is maybe making our life easier but sells it to the best bid.”
… and took a wider look on their work by adding:
We draw inspiration from several 80’s diy-punk acts as well as contemporary genre-stretchers such as Self Defense Family, Comadre or Touché Amoré. Our approach is to maintain a spontaneous and intuitive element within music. Therefore most of all song ideas are created by the band together in their basement. The songs were recorded in a live setting in order to capture that sentiment. “reconstruction” is not only a metaphor for dealing with constant difficulties in life, (mental) health or politics, it’s also a statement against racism, sexism, homophobia, sexual harassment, violence or any other forms of discrimination!
