Richmond hardcore band CANDY shares new EP “Flipping”

1 min read

Boston’s CANDY just dropped their second record of the year, Flipping, and it’s a gut-punch you’ll feel in your bones long after the vinyl stops spinning.

Coming out today via Triple B Records, the DIY hardcore label that’s been keeping the scene filthy since the early 2010s, this EP is a gnarly cocktail of sound that’s equal parts throwback and forward-thinking chaos.

Flipping is pure, raw sonic mayhem—like a night spent chasing highs through a haze of uppers and psychedelics. But it’s not just the euphoric buzz you get at the after-hours. No, this record drags you through the inevitable hangover of self-loathing that follows the hedonistic descent.

The six tracks hit hard, with titles like “In The Feelings We Chase” and “Horse Crazy” doing nothing to hide the band’s fascination with the reckless pursuit of pleasure.

And CANDY’s got more than just sound to back it up—Andrew Barnes’ visual art is as grimy and unsettling as the themes they’re smashing into your skull. His depiction of America’s addiction to instant gratification perfectly matches the album’s dark, twisted exploration of self-destruction and indulgence. Think of it like a sonic trip through the underbelly of society, where the lights of Vegas strip clubs flicker against the harsh realities of excess.

Kurt Ballou, hardcore’s own sound surgeon, cuts through with his production, making sure every scream and riff on Flipping is as abrasive and unrelenting as it needs to be. If you’re looking for something that’s going to slap you in the face and leave you reeling, this one’s got your name written all over it.

Limited to 500 copies on cloudy blue vinyl, Flipping is the kind of record you want to hold onto as everything burns down around you.
