Québec City-based hardcore/sludge metal band Scare has announced the release of their second full-length album, In The End, Was It Worth It?, scheduled for February 21st, 2025. Accompanying the announcement, No Echo magazine premiered the lyric video for the single “Thrash Melrose,” offering a glimpse into the album’s unflinching thematic exploration and sonic intensity.
Since their formation in 2015, Scare has built a reputation for delivering relentless, anxiety-fueled metallic hardcore. Their sound draws clear inspiration from acts like Cursed, Mi Amore, Buried Inside, and Trigger Effect, blending sludge tones with visceral grooves. From their debut demo to the 2019 LP Not Dead Yet, Probably…, and the Congratulations On Your Death EP in 2021, Scare’s evolution reflects a band unafraid to push boundaries.
Their second album captures a mature, refined approach, featuring 13 tracks compressed into a blistering 32 minutes. It’s a record steeped in the bleak realities of modern life while daring to hold out a glimmer of hope. According to the band, the themes revolve around inner struggles and the collective unease of contemporary existence, a soundtrack for those grappling with the weight of the world.
“Thrash Melrose” encapsulates the album’s overarching narrative. As the band explains, the track is “a reflection on Green Anarchism and a lament for the state of our planet.” It critiques humanity’s exploitative relationship with nature, calling for a return to simplicity and harmony. Scare acknowledges the resilience of the natural world, positioning the song as both a warning and an acknowledgment of nature’s enduring power.
The lyric video visually complements the track’s urgent message, underscoring the gravity of environmental degradation.
In The End, Was It Worth It? was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ryan Battistuzzi at Le Stuzzio, ensuring a polished yet raw delivery that captures the band’s signature ferocity. The album art, created by Kevin Martel, reinforces the record’s dark and introspective tone.
Scare will promote the album with a series of live performances throughout Quebec, including a hometown record release show in Québec City on February 22nd, 2025, at L’ANTI Bar & Spectacles. Known for their intense stage presence, these shows promise to bring the album’s themes to life in full force.
